Terminology
Just in case you were wondering what all the image edit lingo means. Here are some commonly used terms.
- Cloning
Using software tools to copy parts of an image
and apply that to another part. Useful for fixing
damaged or missing sections of a photo.
- CMYK
An acronym for Cyan Magenta Yellow Key(Black).
The output of most 4 colour printers, and the colour
mode for images going to print.
- RGB
An acronym for Red Green Blue. The output
method for colour monitors, and the colour mode
for images used on the web.
- Colour Correction
Adjusting the CMYK values of an image
to accurately match a real object.
- Colour Changing
Adjusting the CMYK values of an image
to that of a colour not originally used in the subject matter.
- Merge
Combining 2 or more photo’s by adding elements
to each other.
- Special Effect
Using software filters and tools to create unique
effects such as wind or rippeling water.
- Creative Edit
Using ones creativity and imagination to construct
an artistic representation of a photo.
- Red Eye
Red eye’s in a photograph caused by a reflection off
the eye’s retina made by a camera’s flash.
- DPI / PPI
Acronyms for; Dot’s Per Inch, Pixels Per Inch
Both are measurements used to identify the resolution size
of an image on screen and print.
- Greyscaling
Converting an images colours to tones of grey
ranging from black to white.
- Compression
When saving image files to formats such as .JPG, you
have the ability to shrink memory size by compensating
for quality. Commonly used as proof’s not final outputs.
